This was my last trip of the season and what
a wonderful trip it was. It was organized by Greg Stoltman
(thank you Greg!) and had a good turn out.
Downton Creek is located in the Cayoosh Range
which is on the North side of the Duffy Lake Road. I'll put
a map up soon. This is just a quicky trip report for now :)
This trip started with a nasty steep climb up
some huge, unstable boulders. Seemed to go on forever but
we finally made it up. The view at the top made it all worth
while. We decided to stop for lunch and enjoy the scenery.
The group broke up after lunch into several smaller groups
and we pressed on. Some of us headed up to the peak seen in
the photos. We lost the other people but met up with them
eventually down where we intended to camp. It was a pretty
hairy descent as John, Ziff & I decided to head down the
back side and around.
Had a wonderful sleep that night thanks to the
polar fleace I had lugged along and woke up to a beautiful,
crisp, clear morning. Headed out in the other direction for
the day. Again, just look at the pictures. Had a blast 'screeing'
down a very long scree slope. Hiked across the meadow and
found a great, albiet windy spot for lunch.
After lunch, we headed back up to the first
col we had headed for that morning then back to the campsite
to pack up and head down.
We took a different route down and managed to
go around the steep boulder slope by bushwacking then taking
a lovely stroll through a clearcut. Not a great way to end
such a wonderful trip but it was better than the alternative.
Sorry this report is so short and not particularly
informative. It's been 7 months since this trip so the old
memory is a little foggy on the details. I'll add them as
I remember.
