Mount Baker
September 22-23, 2007
Greg had a group of newbs who wanted to climb Baker. Sounded like it might be fun so Chris and I told him we'd come along and give him a hand.
Weather was not great on Saturday and very sadly a woman was killed when she fell down one of the waterfalls below the glacier.
Weather was supposed to be nice on Sunday and indeed it was! We were up at 2am to starry skies. The girls decided not to climb so Greg stayed behind with them. Chris, Noah, Jason and I headed up.
The day became beautiful and sunny but very cold and windy. The glacier was very icy with lots of crevasses and at least one very sketchy snow bridge. We decided to hop on to the Easton glacier below the Roman Wall as it looked like more fun than scrambling up the rock ridge. It was definitely more interesting but longer as we had to go around crevasses etc. Decided to turn back at the Roman Wall as Chris and I were worried about the border (has been totally insane lately) and I'd promised to be home for dinner. Noah and Jason were very gracious and insisted that they didn't mind.
